Members of the public and media will be able to call in to listen to this hearing. The call-in number is 650-479-3207 and the access code is 1804010308. Persons granted remote access to proceedings are reminded of the general prohibition against photographing, recording, and rebroadcasting of court proceedings. 06/21/2025 STATUS Report by Maryam Bakhtiyari
06/12/2025 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Jorge L. Alonso: Telephonic status hearing set for 6/25/25 at 9:30 a.m. Plaintiff is directed to file a status report by 6/20/25. Members of the public and media will be able to call in to listen to this hearing. The call-in number is 650-479-3207 and the access code is 1804010308. Persons granted remote access to proceedings are reminded of the general prohibition against photographing, recording, and rebroadcasting of court proceedings. Violation of these prohibitions may result in sanctions, including removal of court issued media credentials, restricted entry to future hearings, denial of entry to future hearings, or any other sanctions deemed necessary by the Court. Notice mailed by Judge's staff
05/14/2025 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Jorge L. Alonso:Plaintiff's motion 21 is denied. Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 7(b) requires every motion to "state with particularity the grounds for seeking [any court] order." Plaintiff's motion does not state any grounds for the order it requests. It refers to a proposed order "emailed to Judge's Chambers," but the Court does not entertain motions by email. Only after Plaintiff establishes the grounds for relief in an appropriate motion filed on the docket may he propose a certain form of relief by submitting a proposed order to the Court's proposed-order email inbox at Proposed_Order_Alonso@ilnd.uscourts.gov. In any event, the Court has not received any proposed order from Plaintiff at that address, so whatever email Plaintiff sent appears to have been misdirected. Notice mailed by Judge's staff
05/12/2025 MOTION by Plaintiff Maryam Bakhtiyari for extension of time for Temporary Restraining Order
05/06/2025 SUMMONS Issued (Court Participant) as to Defendant The Partnerships and Unincorporated Associations on Schedule A
04/29/2025 SEALED TEMPORARY Restraining Order. Signed by the Honorable Jorge L. Alonso on 4/29/2025. Notice mailed by Judge's staff
04/29/2025 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Jorge L. Alonso: Plaintiff's ex parte motion 13 is granted, the hearing noticed for 4/30/25 is stricken, and no appearance is necessary. The plaintiff's written submissions establish that if defendants were informed of this proceeding before a TRO could issue, assets would likely be redirected, defeating plaintiff's interests in identifying defendants, stopping the infringement, and obtaining an accounting. In addition, the submitted evidence establishes a likelihood of success on the merits, the harm to plaintiff is irreparable and an injunction is in the public interest because infringement interferes with the plaintiff's ability to control its intellectual property. Those rights cannot be fully compensated by money damages. There is no countervailing harm to defendants from an order directing them to stop infringement. Electronic service of process does not violate any treaty and is consistent with due process because it is an effective, perhaps the most effective, way to communicate with defendants. Expedited discovery is warranted to identify defendants and implement the asset freeze. If any defendant were to appear and object, the court will take a fresh look at the asset freeze, joinder, and personal jurisdiction. The court finds that security in the amount of $62,000--$1,000 per defendantis sufficient to secure the injunctive relief. Notice mailed by Judge's staff
04/25/2025 MOTION by Plaintiff Maryam Bakhtiyari for temporary restraining order Second Motion
04/18/2025 MINUTE entry before the Honorable Jorge L. Alonso: Plaintiff's motion for temporary restraining order 10 is denied without prejudice. The Court has recently warned counsel in another case, Case No. 24 C 13140, in which counsel also represents the plaintiff, that he must follow Judge Alonso's case procedures, which are posted on Judge Alonso's webpage on the Northern District of Illinois website at https://www.ilnd.uscourts.gov/judge_display.php?LastName=Alonso, for counterfeit product/Schedule A cases and for filing motions generally. Despite the warning, counsel has again failed to notice his motion for temporary restraining order for a date certain and he has failed to submit clean and redlined versions of his proposed order to the Court's proposed order email inbox. Additionally, when he finally did submit a proposed order in the 13140 case, it deviated without explanation from the template posted to Judge Alonso's webpage, forcing the Court to waste time with judicial editing. If Plaintiff chooses to file a corrected motion for temporary restraining order, he should review the case procedures for counterfeit product/Schedule A cases on Judge Alonso's webpage at https://www.ilnd.uscourts.gov/judge-info.aspx?IuUaWzNcEoNZYybhk1PFH4aOTEZDwGo8 and follow all requirements carefully. Failure to follow Judge Alonso's case procedures will result in summary denial of any renewed motion. The motions to seal 4 and 5 are granted. Notice mailed by Judge's staff
